31st May – 6th June
This year the 50th edition of the Krakow International Film Festival will be taking place in the beautiful Polish city of Krakow in the end of May, beginning of June. This Film Festival is known for especially focusing on documentary, animation and other short film forms.
It was created in 1961 and in the beginning only national competitors were allowed, but in 1963 this rule changed and the first international competition was organized. Nowadays it is known as one of the most important European film festivals that focus on documentary and short films. All entries are welcome and they are sent in from more than 70 countries all over the world. With 200 entries alone from Germany, the popularity of the Festival is visible. But not only Western Europe is participating: this year there are some treats in store from Chile, Panama, Peru, the Philippines and many more. Altogether more than 350 films are presented at the Krakow Film Festival every year and the winning movies get to go home with the sought after golden Dragon prizes. Since the late 90s the Festival also gives out an international life achievement award which is called the Dragon of Dragons.
What’s so unique about the Krakow Film festival is not only the program of competition screenings, the Dragons and Hobby Horse prizes, but also the numerous accompanying events outside the program. The whole city of Krakow is celebrating this cultural event with the visiting renowned film makers, actors and directors, and especially this year should have a celebratory undertone for the jubilee edition.
